A Tale of the Cold & Wolf Moons

Beware of the Wolves at the door.

In a quaint village nestled at the edge of an ancient forest, the arrival of January brought with it a sense of anticipation and caution. The villagers, wise in the old ways, whispered warnings to each other: "Beware of the wolves at the door during the Wolf Moon, in the first 14 days of January."

As the month unfolded, the villagers felt the chill in the air deepening from the Cold Moon in December into the Wolf Moon of January.  The transition cast an eerie glow upon the snow-covered landscape. It was during this time that the wolves, ancient guardians of the forest, approached the outskirts of the village.

The village elders, keepers of tradition and lore, gathered the community to share tales of the wolf spirits and the importance of respecting the natural order. They spoke of the Cold Moon, whose silver light illuminated the path of the wolves as they ventured closer to the heart of the village at the time of the Wolf Moon.

The warning echoed through the cottages, reminding the villagers to secure their homes and stay vigilant during the nights of the first 14 days of January. It was believed that the wolves, while majestic and noble, carried with them a sense of mystery and a reminder of the untamed wilderness.

On the first night of the Wolf New Moon, a lone wolf, its fur shimmering in the faint moonlight, approached the door of the village leader. The elders interpreted this as a sign—a message from the spirit of the wolf. The village leader, accompanied by the wise ones, ventured outside to commune with the wolf.

Through an unspoken language of eyes and presence, the wolf conveyed a warning of challenges ahead, urging the villagers to stand strong together and to be mindful of their impact on the natural world. As quickly as it had appeared, the wolf vanished into the shadows.

Night after night, different wolves approached different doors, each carrying its own message. Some spoke of the need for balance with nature, while others emphasized the importance of unity within the human community.

As the Wolf Moon reached its peak, the villagers felt a mixture of reverence and trepidation. The final night brought all the wolves together on the outskirts of the village. Their haunting howls filled the air, a symphony of nature's voices echoing through the wintry night.

And then, as mysteriously as they had arrived, the wolves retreated into the depths of the forest. The village, now aware of the delicate dance between humanity and nature, embraced the lessons of the Cold and Wolf Moons, carrying the wisdom of the wolves with them throughout the rest of the winter and beyond. The cautionary words "Beware of the wolves at the door" became a reminder of the interconnectedness of all living beings and the need for respect and harmony in the natural world.
